Only members of the student union SAMMAKKO are entitled to get a student card and the benefits it brings

Student unions in the Finnish universities of applied sciences differ from the ones in normal universities in their membership rules and regulations. Unlike in a university membership is not mandatory. This also means that only the members of the student union have the right to vote in the representative elections and affect the decision-making.

Most of the funding of the student unions funding comes from the membership fees. That’s why it is important that every student in SAMK joins SAMMAKKO. All the membership fees are used to fund the student union’s activities. In other words, all the money gained from the membership fees is used to the things students have deemed important.

The basis of SAMMAKKO is that the benefits and services it offers are targeted at its members. That’s why all the events and services of SAMMAKKO offer clearly cheaper prices for its members. The membership fee pays itself back in a year if one takes part in the student union’s events. In addition, the members of SAMMAKKO receive other advantages such as a calendar and free tickets to different events and occasions.

Members of SAMMAKKO receive a blue SAMOK-student card which is the only student card they will need. This card entitles its owner to a 50% student discount for VR's and Matkahuolto's train and bus tickets and several nationwide and local student benefits and discounts.

The members of SAMMAKKO also have a member counseling service available for them. Be it wrongly evaluated exams, conflicts, harassment or thesis subjects, members will quickly receive professional assistance.
